Shoulder / Elbow

Dr. Dickens specializes in shoulder and elbow surgery including arthroscopic surgery allowing for repair of tissues through a minimally invasive approach.  This can include:

  • A tear of the rotator cuff is a common injury in which the tendons are pulled off their insertion on the humerus. This often leads to pain and weakness in the shoulder and upper arm requiring surgery to remedy. Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is a minimally invasive procedure to reattach rotator cuff tendon tears.
  • Shoulder Instability – The labrum is a rim of cartilage reinforces the ball and socket joint of the shoulder.  It is attached to the glenoid – the shallow shoulder socket.  The labrum is the attachment site for the ligaments and supports the ball and socket joint along with the rotator cuff tendons and muscles. It contributes to shoulder stability and, when torn, can lead to partial or complete shoulder dislocation.
